Three proven installation methods covering every extender brand and router combination.
Best for first-time setup and full configuration control.
Place extender within 20 feet of your router. Connect to power and wait for the power LED to turn solid green (about 60 seconds).
Open WiFi settings and connect to the extender's default network: NETGEAR_EXT, TP-LINK_Extender, LinksysExtender, ASUS_RepeaterMode, or similar (shown on device label).
Open any browser and go to mywifiext.net. If it doesn't load, try the direct IP on your extender's label (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
Enter default credentials — username admin, password admin or password. You'll be prompted to create a new password on first login.
The wizard will scan and display nearby WiFi networks. Select your home router's SSID from the list.
Type your router's WiFi password. The extender will verify and confirm successful pairing.
Use the same SSID as your router (recommended for seamless roaming) or create a new name. Click Save.
Move the extender to the midpoint between your router and the area with poor signal. The signal LED confirms reception quality.
Use the extender's signal strength LED when choosing placement. Aim for 2–3 bars from the router — this ensures the extender has enough signal to re-broadcast at full strength.
Fastest method — no browser or password entry needed. Works with most routers made after 2010.
For initial pairing, keep the extender close to your router (within 5 feet). You'll move it after pairing is complete.
Hold the WPS button on your extender for 3–5 seconds. The WPS LED will begin blinking, indicating it's searching for a router.
Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router. Hold for 2 seconds. Both devices will exchange credentials automatically.
The extender's WPS LED will turn solid, confirming successful pairing. This typically takes 30–60 seconds.
Move the extender to the halfway point between your router and the area needing coverage. Reconnect to power and verify signal.
If WPS pairing fails after 2 attempts, your router may have WPS disabled for security. Switch to the Web Browser Setup method — it works with all routers regardless of WPS settings.
Connect to your extender's network and navigate to mywifiext.net or the direct IP address. Log in with your admin credentials.
Go to Settings → Firmware Update or Maintenance → Firmware Update. The path varies by brand and model.
Click Check Online or Check for Updates. The extender will query the manufacturer's server for the latest firmware version.
Click Download and Install. Do not disconnect power during the update. The process takes 3–5 minutes and the extender will restart automatically.
A factory reset erases your extender's network name, password, and all custom settings. You will need to set up the extender from scratch afterward.
Find the small recessed Reset button on your extender. It usually requires a pin, paperclip, or toothpick to press.
With the extender powered on, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. LEDs will flash rapidly to confirm the reset is in progress.
Release the button and wait 60–90 seconds for the extender to fully restart. LEDs will stabilise when it's ready.
Follow the Web Browser Setup Wizard from Step 1. The extender is now in factory-fresh state with default credentials.
